What is diet mentality to/for you? Thought it might be interesting and informative to create a list of this so we can be aware of and prepared to deal with this nasty enemy of our bodies when it attacks us!

Here are a few shared insights on this topic -
* For me the diet mentality is:
When I see a magazine at the store or gym or drs. office, I used to immediately turn to the latest and greatest weight loss diet regimen.
When I'd see a friend and she's lost weight, I used to want to know how she did it and copy whatever diet she used to lose the weight.
When I see articles about foods that are bad for your health and that you should avoid eating.
When I see articles about foods that will boost your metabolism and help you lose weight, also diet supplements, naturopathic remedies, etc.
When I am at a party or restaurant with friends and they start "diet mentality talk," such as "Oh I gotta be good, gotta be good. I'm not going to have any dessert."
* For me diet mentality is all about being imposed upon and duped! No wonder my inner rebel was screaming for NOT following any of the dictates dieting tricks (yes TRICKS) us into. These are -
1) Only experts know what is best for a person to eat.
2) Our bodies are 'wrong' and we must do alllll these (diet/exercise) things to have a 'good' body
3) Pressure (to faithfully accept and follow diets rules) - ranging from peer, social and even medical - is subtly and constantly bombarding us from as many directions (media, other people) as the diet industry can employ.
4) Diet rules are - weight determined by charts, only X foods are to be eaten (these change all the time too), avoid Y foods!!, dieting is an ALL or nothing, black/white, succeed/fail venture. The diet is perfect, the dieter is the failure.
5) Above all do NOT TRUST your body!! One's body is weak, will only select wrongly and a prisoner of its own chemical reactions.
All this seems too crazy to be believed when one really sees these for what they are. I am reminded of the saying about
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
NO THANKS and NOT any more (for me). And if anyone really wants to buy into this D$ (diet $ucking), have fun! but don't expect me to do likewise. I LOVE my freedom and DEAR body more :-)
* Diet mentality:
Having my ears perk up when a diet segment comes on TV. Feeling the need, not only to watch it, but also record it for later viewing.
Quickly turning to the diet article in a magazine
Choosing the food item with the least fat, and/or most fiber
Logging meals on the computer
Refusing to buy anything with sugar as the first ingredient. Ooo, did it feel bad and delinquent the first time I violated that "rule" after starting IE!
Counting the precise number of nuts in a serving...Does this half nut and that half nut equal one whole nut? Seems so sad now, --but that was my reality for years.
It's so good to be done with it.
What would you add?
