A few Shared thoughts on Hunger -
* That was hard for me to reconnect with because I had ignored it for so long. So I'm really glad you are able to, because it makes it easier to kick diet mentality to the curb. I encourage you to reread Principle 1 and consider if maybe you are nurturing even the smallest hope that IE will get you and keep you at a certain weight point, or help you figure out what the 'correct' amount of food for you is.
I say that because I think when we are deciding how much food is too little, saying to ourselves we will only eat if we feel physical hunger, eating only ever and purely for physical reasons with no room for satisfaction, and fighting urges to give in, it sounds like the outside influence of diet mentality. When we are doing the deciding, instead of our bodies doing the deciding, it's very difficult to allow the intuitive wisdom our bodies already have to do any talking we will listen to.
* one of the biggest efforts when starting the IE process is reacquainting yourself with the many levels of hunger that your body feels. You may find it easier to understand this if you envision your body hunger as a gas tank in a car. When the tank is full even down to the half level, you won't have a lot of signals urging you to eat. But after the half mark is passed, first subtle signs will nudge you. Then as the tank goes towards empty, the signals will increase in urgency until empty is seriously looming and the FEED ME NOW! warning signal gets to where it can NOT be ignored.
check out for yourself is thinking that IE is about ONLY eating when hungry. Yes, eating when hungry, and to body satisfaction is the ultimate aim of IE. However, hunger is NOT a 'black or white' thing, and neither is eating. Being willing to experiment and rediscovering not only your hunger levels, but also food preferences AND really how 'much' pleases your body, is a tall order to do all at once!
* I am beginning intuitive eating and I'm confused with the honor your hunger principle, if I eat only when I'm hungry its way to little. Eating only when I'm hungry is what caused me to be underweight. Does anyone know what I should do? I also always have a compelling feeling to eat when I'm not hungry but if I give in and eat It always leads to a binge...
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS/EXPERIENCES?
